140 grain sst and 140 Sierra game kingsWhich bullet in your 6.5C for hogs. Never thought about using my bolt gun for hogs . . . but yeah, why not.
I have some 120gr Swift A-Frame to try. Barnes also. --- SAWMAN
Isn't that like .485 BC 140 SMK vice .505 BC 175 SMK?140 grain sst and 140 Sierra game kings
I believe they are a little higher, im super impressed with this round. I'm getting almost as high velocities with 35 grains of varget as my 308 with 42.5 grains. Super accurate in a diamondback DB10, most drop where they stand and almost all of em dont go far.Isn't that like .485 BC 140 SMK vice .505 BC 175 SMK?

I think it has more to do with sectional density, the bullet is long and skinny. I was very impressed with how light the recoil is with such a hard hitting bullet. The 6 5s seat deeper in the case. I'm running almost max varget in the 6.5 case @35 grains . Max is 36.5 , my lowest loads in 308 150 gr bullet is 40.5 of varget and max i believe is 45.5.Here is my question re. some members stateing the 6.5C has less recoil(impulse) than a 308Win.
How much powder does the 6.5 burn using a 147-160gr bullet ?? How about a 308 with a 140gr ??
Both the cases hold the same amount of powder (~). What would the difference in recoil be ??
Even with the 6.5 shooting the 147 vs the 308 shooting a 155-168gr. The difference in recoil to your shoulder is probably minimum.
And given the above, what is the difference with a semi auto gas gun ?? The bullets weight and the bullets speed directly results in recoil. For every action, there is a equal and opposite reaction, right ?? --- SAWMAN
I don't know about that. My velocity with a 140 is almost 2700 fps, the bc of the 140 is higher than any .30 in the same class. Less felt recoil so less prone to mistakes. The twist rate and the narrow bullet all play factors.I've used the pedestrian 7.62 x 39 154 grain Silver Bear HP at or inside of 150 yards for over a decade in a Mini-30 and have not failed to drop even 400 LB Hogs with a single round. Dropped Black Bear & Deer also. But a simple 300 yard shot with a 150 yard zero requires 1 & 1/2 Mils Hold Over. I can't even compute 1200 or 1500 yard hold over for the 7.62 x 39. LOL.
I was a 308 fan boy for years. My go to round but I honestly like 6.5 better for neck shots. The accuracy is almost same hole at 100 yards.
This is probably a loaded question, but have you ever dropped a hog size game animal @ over 1500 meters with your 6.5? Nowadays I won't squeeze off a round at game over 300 yards, so why should I expend more time, energy, and Republic Credits using a 6.5 instead of low cost, easily available, no need to reload .308 Win Surplus? I mean do the critters notice the difference??????

First shot at over 100 yards with just a Mini-30 with 154 gr Silver Bear Russian Surplus and I don't need a neck shot for a 1 shot stop.
Sure hope that shot was an entry wound from the rear quarter, or is that the exit wound from a front quarter shot that traveled that far without expanding? Would hate to think a round from a low recoil, pedestrian 7.62 x 39 inflicts the same required amount of efficiency. These rounds leave big holes. Tears there insides out.
