It is a remembrance. . . kinda like a gravestone. It might not mean as much to me as others but I never gave a thought of disrespecting it.

I like your way of describing the statues/ memorials as way of remembering--gravestone...I never quite thought of it that way. Thanks for expanding my thinking.

Maybe we need some kind of memorial park for stautes, memorials, ceremonies, etc.

Maybe we already have it and I am unaware (wouldn't be the first time I was!)

The last time I spent a dime down town was at Hub's on Memorial Day, while visiting the wall. I bet it was more than a year since I've been down there before that.... Certainly not going anywhere close to these protests/riots.

Well said bholden. Why can't we all have our statues ?? Personally,I have, as a proud white man, never once even thought about defacing or vandalizing a statue that was erected in the memory of a non white.

See what we are doing ..is necessary, convos like this is necessary, feeling uncomfortable when talking about race in this country is necessary, this country is broken. And that’s something that we both can agree on..that’s like for instance defunding police departments and doing away with police all together. That is the dumbest shit I have ever heard .. and I have had my fair share of the discrimination with the police because the color of my skin (The shit really happens) and police are not my favorite group of people...I’m just being honest...but doing away with them altogether is stupid and dangerous!! There need some MAJOR reform not Because one bad cop murder ANOTHER black man.. but because it need to happen!! and bad as I hate to say it ...George Floyd death was Necessary!! ... to shed light on the injustices that happening all over the country..and ppl had to see that man die in front of them to stop and see that this shit is real ...it’s not a conversation about black and white it’s a conversation about humanity.. George Floyd is the modern day Emmett Till. His death was necessary because had it not been for the bravery of his mothers decision to have a open casket at his funeral the Civil Right Moment would have never been born ...I strongly encourage anyone that don’t know who emmitt till is to google it !!

I was a child in Chicago when Emmitt Till was killed in Mississippi and that was a long time ago. An open casket. IIRC, his body had been weighted down with a piece of machinery and tossed in a river.
Many of the Black people in Chicago were from Mississippi so there was quite and outpouring. There always serious racial tensions on the south side of chicago between the slavic & Irish whites vs the black community in those days. Now many of those whites that used to live in those neighborhoods are gone being replaced by blacks and mexicans.
Till was a young lad that offended some white people and when they found a picture of a white female classmate in his wallet, his fate was decided. He was highshool IIRC.
Relative to Floyd, one takes their martyrs where they can find them. Floyd had a long record of serious crime and involvement with drugs. But that is no excuse for how he was put to death and no policeman should ever behave that way.
If there had been no rioting I think American whites would be more accepting of necessary changes that need to made.
Right now I just do not know. I will avoid problem areas, mind my own business, and always keep a gun close. I do not care if you are black, white, or polka dot, leave me alone.

That’s what I’m saying ...i don’t agree with the looting and rioting either...and it pisses me off ..because I know that there are bad apples on every tree! ...there are thousands upon thousands of ppl that look like me that are doing it the right way .. so why should all of us be looked at like that ones that’s doing all the looting and rioting..whites are also looting and rioting as well ...and in Floyd’s case why does that matter that he had a extensive criminal record and drug use..at that moment in time that was irrelevant. And I know you said that but why does it have to be apart of that conversation...I’m just trying to understand your thought process? That all

I am sure that the two knew one another. I think it was a deliberate homicide and likely Floyd's past had something to do with the way Chauvin reacted. Meaning thinking he could get away with it.
I mentioned the record in part because people are making him out to be a saint and instead of a murder victim killed because he was black. I would prefer that people stick to the facts. It was a racial murder of a blackman that was not of a saint. Few of us are. That is where it should begin and end. Whether saint or thug, no one should die that way.

I totally agree..I will be the first to say that he was more valuable dead then he was alive not because he had a shady past because it shed light on what happens all the time...saint or no saint ...

I think after this america will never the same. A strong point has been made. The reaction of many blacks and also whites was spontaneous without planning. This is what allowed disruptive elements to get in and loot, burn, and other things. Some of these people were criminal gangs that were involved in systematic looting.
The point is to move large numbers of demonstrators around is best done by some organization that has some sort of self policing. At least parade marshals. The lack of such allows antifa and many be others to get involved to deliberately cause disorder and fear. This violence also gives propaganda to the mass media to campaign against guns and Trump.

If these "conversations in the US" are needed, then they are overshadowed by the continuous CRIMINALS ACTIONS. Period.

I agree that peaceful dialogue will get more accomplished, but I stop listening to the rhetoric when the speaker's lips are saying one thing while they physically attack/loot/burn/murder and lead others to do the same.

If BLM isn't a terrorist organization, then perhaps it should be more careful who it associates with at "protests", and what messages it spreads about "whites", and what actions it endorses at supposedly "peaceful protests".

Until that day, when BLM renounces the criminal acts, in public, with both words and deeds, I will believe their actions speak to their true character, and I will continue to consider them the terrorist organization that they are. Right there with antifa.

Individual conversations between intelligent forum members is one thing.

This thread is about a terrorist organization that openly targets one race for the benefit of another race, while advocating violence and criminal acts, and while partnering with other terrorist organizations like antifa. Setting up activities in our community.

Nope. They are Not open to dialogue. They are only interested in destruction and DEMANDS.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Photo of recent march. I see at least two, maybe three races. Which race is being targeted. I do see a lot of whites there. Are they targeting themselves? This is in reference to ' This thread is about a terrorist organization that openly targets one race for the benefit of another race, " I realize things are not simple. I think the more obvious targets are the police and discrimination against blacks. I do not approve looting and attacks against property or people.

Go re-read post #6 of THIS THREAD. There are Plenty of other examples of BLM actions out there. If they are such a peaceful and faultless group, then their leadership and PR people should be fired.

I'll try to interpret your comment to Frommer as a descriptor of my comment you quoted. So, which part was "just straight up bullshit"?

You and I both agree that a conversation is helpful.

From my perspective, "ALL" lives matter. To create a group that focuses on one race, implies that other races are not, or, at a minimum, the other races are not the focus of that group. It diminishes the message of what BLM states.

Then, to continuously and openly support such violence (as we've all seen time after time during riots and looting and other "peaceful protests") and to make race-specific Demands about reparations and conviction amnesty, "or else" the consequences are the threat of more violence? How is that NOT a racist terrorist organization?

Ok..like my man..pointed out that at any given time and any given BLM protest there are just as many non-black protesters as they are black!... and furthermore if this BLM organization should be labeled a terrorist organization...then why are all of these fortunate 500 companies that you probably support...are supporting this movement and stand with The BLM. Look there are extremist in every walk of life and BLM is no different.
