Protect yourselves in higher risk areas. Go out in groups of three. Two minimum. The calm demeanor smooth talker engages the idiot to allow the innocent kids and teachers get away. The idiot then shifts focus to the calm talker.
The other members of your group have already drawn discreetly. If the situation can be resolved with words, then wonderful. If not, then the idiot may start something, but he won't even see the other members of the group end it for him.

Somebody gave them some of their own medicine. How many statues, street signs and building names of MLK are out in public? Rosa Parks bus stations? Could get ugly, quick. But I'd be more inclined to think that this was a false flag event, and they tore down their own statue

Joel, I'm not familiar with the event you pictured.
However, if the group you pictured was spewing hate speech against one RACE of people via mega-phone and coordinated livestream on the internet, and ensured the formation was locked-and-loaded and ready to "kill a MF-er today", and then it marched towards a place where they thought they could find a group of that race of people to try to stir up a fire-fight, then there's no real difference.

If the wife had been armed, she could have.
Not a jury on the planet that would hold it against her.
If the husband had been armed, the moment it turned violent, he could have shot his attackers and anyone who threatened the same violence to his wife and daughter.
If anyone in the crowd had been armed, they would be justified to, at a minimum, draw. 3-against-1 and he's being kicked on the ground? Then one punches the wife? Nope.
Four SOBs beating up a husband and wife in public. In front of their kid, no less. Again... just feral animals. Should be treated accordingly.
