I’m currently age 65 and 5 months. I had planned on waiting until my “full retirement age” of 66 and 2 months to take SS but I don’t trust the Dems as far as I can throw them.
They will be looking for money for their social programs to take care of their followers and some of them have said they want to cut SS benefits.
So, I’m thinking of starting very soon.
My employers and I contributed for 50 years. It’s not a giveaway.
If they want to refund my money plus interest, be glad to do that.

The reality of being "self sufficient" is hard
It can be disturbing to realize how weak and vulnerable some of us are.

Some may believe they are strong and independent and maybe they were at one time but now......

As individuals we're all "weak and vulnerable" under all but the best of circumstances.

I don’t believe that your better off waiting until your 68, no one is guaranteed to live long enough to overcome the years that you’ll have already collected. I’m 43 and I’ve worked since I was a child, starting out by deck-handing on my dad’s shrimp, crab, or oyster boat. I worked in my grandfathers crab shop, I’ve always paid taxes, and I’ll start drawing it as soon as I turn 62.

Six months before I turned 62 I went down to the P'cola SS office on Garden St. I wanted to make sure that I had everything needed to start drawing MY MONEY.
I went back down and filled out the paperwork ASAP.
I told the lady that I wanted MY money back and they coukd keep the accrued interest. She just gave me a blank stare. --- SAWMAN

It used to be 65 for full and then some people (like you) got pushed back and have to wait until after 65 to get full amount. They did it once and no one stopped them. What is stopping them from doing it again?

Guess the next time they could just turn on the printing presses instead of delaying payment when the "account" gets low of funds. Similar effect, payment reduction once inflation takes its course?

From Social Security Statement I receive every year:

"* Your estimated benefits are based on current law. Congress has made changes to the law in the past and can do so at any time. The law governing benefit amounts may change because, by 2035, the payroll taxes collected will be enough to pay only about 79 percent of scheduled benefits."

Look like some benefit "cuts", tax increases, printing new money to fill the account or pushing back retirement age may be in the cards, again.

And that is before paying for new programs is even considered.

Two are entitlement programs I pay into and one is a right. I won't make a choice.

If you wait till your full retirement age to draw your ss you won’t break even till almost age 80 . At that point you will get more money as things are currently . So do you bet on living that long , or do you take your money now ? Easy choice for me , I’ll always take a bird in the hand over two in the bush.

    Fair enough.

We have interesting times coming. Power has swung to the left. What will be their response after the next Sandy Hook?

Imagine a world where some entitlement payments have gun control strings attached. Just because it does not exist now or we cannot imagine it, does not mean it cannot happen.

The folks coming into power are smart and creative. They will let little stop them from achieving their goals.

    Brace for impact?

The left has not followed the rule of law for the entire Trump administration.

So I don't see why I wouldn't do the same to them for Biden / Harris.

    They can piss off.

I didn’t take it at 62 because I would have lost too much but everybody’s different. Some people need it ASAP, I don’t.
My parents and grandparents all lived until they were in their late 80s so I’m planning on reaching the break-even point.
I’m also thinking of my wife. My SS will be higher than hers so if I pass, she can take the higher of the two.
As far as the Dems, you can bet they will push their agenda to the limits while they are in power. Hopefully we can flip a few Senate seats in 2022.
Which brings me to the people that say “I vote for the person, not the party.”
We are long past that. If politicians voted their own mind instead of falling in lockstep with the party, it wouldn’t be such a big deal that one party has a one vote majority in the Senate.

I just got my income tax 2020 tax information, but not stimulus check yet. I have never given the IRS my bank account number.

I waited till 70. Some people in my family tend to be long lived. My mother will be going on 103 in few months. The trouble is one does not know when you are going to die making planning difficult relative to spending what you got before you die.

I believe you can draw it at 62 and then when you hit 70 pay it back and you’ll then collect the full amount.

If you take it early and also have additional income, you may end up paying more in taxes due to a greater income. Talk to a tax specialist prior to doing that.

They will not wait until the next Sandy Hook. Their plans have already gone into effect and will only grow from here. Harris has already stated that she will give the new administration 100 days to act or she will. They are not dumb. They know you can't do anything without ammo and you can't reload without reloading supplies like primers. For those who have ammo stashed or reloading supplies, they will not last forever especially if you like to go out and shoot like I do. I do not feel that this shortage is all to blame because of Covid 19 or hoarding. For example, they are not importing primers from overseas. I remember when the last shortage hit, you could still get Wolf primers. Not now! I don't think any primers are being imported right now. I feel things will only get worse with time. Vista Outdoors who is now the biggest manufacture / supplier has back orders to August 2022 and growing longer each day. I pray I am wrong and things will get better soon but I doubt it. This is just my two cents! PS. Did anyone see lately on the news where one of the protesters who stormed the capital building had an assault rifle! The media and politicians will keep stirring the pot until something is done. And now that the Dem's have full control, look out!
