I have to share this. I was sitting in Houston a few weeks ago taking on fuel. I noticed there were a number of mullet hanging around the port side of the boat swimming around chasing something. After I slowed down and looked at what they were doing I almost had lunch come back up. They were feeding on the sewage being pumped out of the septic tank!

I think I might delete your post. For the sake of all mullet-eaters.

Bigger question would be "why were they pumping raw sewage into water at dock, or anywhere?"

The only way it could be raw sewage if it was an illegal dump, but he just said sewage. You can pump sewage into waterways afters its been treated at which point its probably as clean if not cleaner than your drinking water. My bet is the discharge was warmer or cooler, richer in oxygen or other nutrients, hints why the mullet were hanging around.

Dad bought an electric smoker on Saturday. We kept 12 and he was going to experiment with it yesterday afternoon.

smoked mullet is awesome! by far the best way to eat them!!! I like fried mullet gizzards a close second though. I also canned some with some hot sauce and sliced jalapenos and they were pretty dang good! spread that canned mullet on some crackers and wash it down with a cold corona! yessir

I have tried about a dozen ways to eat Mullet and I just don't care for the taste. I DO love cast net fishing for them though

Dang, you guys must not have had good mullet. Never had one with a muddy taste. But, everyone has their own taste. I still say they're my favorite fish to eat.

when i first arrived here, from key west, in 81, i went to a fishfry, asked what the fish was, they said mullet,i spit my beer out...we used mullet for bait in keywest, to catch real fish....yellowtail, grouper, snapper....

but i learned to like them, after a lifetime of salt water fish...
