Actually I was never a "high end" 1911 sorta guy. When I competed in IPSC while stationed in California, most people built their "race" guns from Colts. Then ...... most of the guns used were the Series 70 Colts. There was nothing pretty about them. They were NOT the preverbal "BBQ GUN". No frames or parts were stainless IIRC.

Parts were assembled from whatever you could find and fit properly. These guns absolutely had to function flawlessly ... and they did, with your choice of most any ammo. I ended up buying and/or building several more 1911's over the years, all with Series 70 frames.

To this day,if I had to carry a 1911 for a living or to protect myself and family,I would choose a Colt Series 70 with this and that added and fitted by me,using Wilson mags or the 47D guts. I believe that "hands on" is the best for the gun you will depend on. Remembering all the time, good looks is not a feature that will save your life or win a contest. --- SAWMAN

^^^^^thats really cool and I agree. I would love to do that. Talk about your family aireloom - BUT the average hobbyist probably doesn't have the time, resources or skill sets to accomplish a 1911 build that they would want to count on to save their life. For me, with my limitations, I'd rather have a basic model Wilson or Baer that's been hand fitted by experts when my,life is on the line. I might think different if I carried two guns...kind of like a HALO rig (primary packed by the jumper, reserve packed by a pro rigger).

I'm all for custom 1911s..not that I can afford them..but that Salient doesn't really do it for me..and I'm not sure y..if it's like their other guns I'm sure it's up to par..but for some reason I feel like I'm looking at a Taurus 1911

On a side note I would also love to build a 1911..have looked into it several different times..but don't have the $$..the time..or the know how

I've been on Justin Burton's waiting list at Heirloom Precision for a while now to have two Series 70 ' s done. I'd like to have MARS build me one of their signature railed fighting guns as well.

Well... I want my yesterday 1911 back. I had a sweet little Llama 45 that had little rise and was a treat to shoot. Got in a tight a few years back and sold her. Going to find another one....soon as I find those winning lotto numbers. No doubt.. I will find the Llama first.

A Wilson Combat Elite CQB is on the top of my Wishlist, but I'm currently on a Taurus budget. Thinking about getting a RIA and learning how do some kitchen table gunsmithing.

My know-how with firearms is pretty much equal with my truck. I can do the basics to keep it on the road but when it starts making funny noises I'm kinda hosed. Computers were always more my thing......

Well did anybody get a 1911 for Christmas? I wasn't expecting a 1911 for Christmas but came across a killer deal on a Nighthawk Custom. More than $1k off of MSRP. I said shut up and take my money!

I picked up another Protector a few days before Christmas. Santa did bring me a Hornady safe, but I think I broke it.
