Ok experts, I have finished my lower build and really enjoyed it. I also have a Wilson Combat BCG on the way.
My question is on the upper. Is it very difficult to build an upper? If it is on the same plane as the lower. If yes I would love to do it. By building it, I could get exactly what I want. Any suggestions on stripped uppers? Where to buy them, differences, etc. I understand barrels and gas systems ok, so think I can figure out what would be best for me. Flash suppressor and furniture, I am ok on also.
If it is too difficult for a novice, I will probably go with a complete upper minus BCG.
As alway, I appreciate everyone's advice, and will pass on the knowledge in the future.

easier than a lower... my opinion. plenty of stripped or complete uppers out there. figure out what you want, buy parts, torque barrel nut, done.

Headspace go/no gauges are a must. If you are installing your own barrel.

    On an AR?
    Really?

The barrel and extension are sold as a unit, pre assembled and headspaced.

If you looked hard enough I suppose you could get them separately, but why open that can of worms.

Thanks everyone. From what I hear, I think I will buy a complete upper for this build, and start gathering the proper tools for future builds.
    I appreciate the help.

That's the path I took as well. I thought I was going to do my own home brew too but I lost patience so I had my lgs do it for me. Now that I'm sated, next go around I plan on doing myself.

One last question. I ended up ordering a PSA upper, and a Wilson Combat BCG. Do I need to worry about the headspace.
    Thanks,
    Gio

So is the only way to check it with go no-go gauge? If it is not right what would I do to correct it. I really appreciate your help and advice.

Ok Frank. I don't have the upper yet, but have the WC BCG, and a BCM gunfighter charging handle. When I get the upper (could be a few weeks, as I will be out of the country for a couple of weeks), I will try what you have suggested. I figure I could also have my gunsmith check with the gauges if needed.
