I received from a friend several hundred projectiles that I can't find much info on. The box says they're 175gn but they only weigh in at 170gn. I've weighed around 50 of them and they're all the same. They have a wax like substance in the groove in the seating area. I know nothing about cast bullets. Would I use 175gn load data for these as I can't find any 170gn SWC data available? Is there anything special I need to know about using cast bullets in a pistol as opposed to jacketed or plated? In the other pic I have several hundred .45 230gn projectiles. It looks like they're pulls. They have a lip around them that appears like they were loaded into an undersized casing and pushed the plating up to form the lip. Would these be safe to use or should I just melt them down? The OD at the lip measures .466. Thanks for any info.

I have no idea why the forum keeps uploading my pics sideways. They are perfectly aligned when I view them on my computer.

The blue is normal "bullet lube", the term "lube" is incorrect, but that's another story, load like you would load jacketed bullets using normal loading data. Make up a "dummy round" no powder & no primer to Check the OAL for one to fit in your mag, and for feed and the action to close correctly .
The 45's look like they had been loaded, a heavy taper crimp applied, then pulled. If you have a set of calipers check the OD's below the "ring", at, and above the ring.

They're .450 above and below the ring and then anywhere from .456 to .466 at the ring. I think I'll just hammer them down and give them to a buddy to make some fishing weights and jigs for me. I'll load a handful of the .40s to 175gn data and see what they do. Thanks for the info.
