Protocol should be to contact your local PD. Ask if they have a location or recommended procedure for a sale/swap. Nothing against local LEO but its not their job, generally speaking to define or enforce federal firearms law. If you're that concerned about a sale, I'd suggest you do a transfer at a local FFL to put you at ease.

I have done meetups at the PoPo palace twice. One seller was a deputy, we met at his employer's parking lot and he actually ran my DL for criminal history.

The other was at a police department designated "safe meeting" spot where folks could meet to conduct legal transactions, guns, chainsaws or any other items sold via the internet.

the only thing that made me nervous was how nervous he was handling the weapon

Disconcerting. Now imagine that guy seeing you transact bidness with somebody else. Ol Barn might be able to find that bullet!

When in doubt I whip it out, got me a rock & roll band it’s a free for all...

Only time I’ve Ever went to a police station to buy/sell guns was if I was buying or selling with officer on duty that requested to meet at station. But wouldn’t otherwise unless I notified someone there what was going on. Especially these days. 2manyNutz they/we have to watch out for.

Would not involve the man. You are now on video as a firearms owner, maybe trafficker, you made a list. Private sales shold be private, IMO. If you have doubts/reservations, back out of the sale and press on. Your call.
