that was back in the day that tons of hunters used the 30-30win and 300savage to kill the biggest of bear ..... and thought that their guns were great. actually ... for the most part ... it was the shooter that was great.
a 25auto puts out roughly the power of a 22lr. but then ..... a hit to the cns is ... a hit to the cns.
I have heard 25 caliber handguns are fantastic in bear country.
When a bear threatens you and your friend(s), all it takes is one shot to the knee of the least favorite friend and you can easily walk away with no fear of being attacked.
I was watching TV a couple nights ago. In the show, main character went to a late 1800s gun store, clerk showed him a Mauser (C96 I believe), clerk said "7.62x25, most power handgun on earth. It'll stop an elephant"
all that and it loads from stripper clips and comes with an attachable stock!! No SBR needed!
I wouldn't want to try it, but my Dad went on a brown bear hunt in Alaska a few months ago. Said the guide told him a few stories about the locals poaching bears and anything else that breathed in the area with 22 lr rifles. Dad told me he didn't believe it until they found a couple moose and a few bears dead on the side of the river from small caliber gun shot wounds to the head.
