A former MLB prospect was arrested Thursday after police in Northeast Ohio say they found 55 untraceable guns.

If he was making and selling then he's in trouble. But what if he just has the means and likes to tinker with firearms? That's not illegal.
As far as the gun shop, that guy is either an idiot or the news twisted the wording around to fit their agenda.

I got a little happy, I thought you could get a lower stamped with your favorite Major League Baseball team's logo on it, and it was approved by the MLB. Sadly that is not the case, thanks Stage20 for raising me up and then kicking me in the ding-ding! lol

In the world of over prosecution, untraceable likely means not easy/obvious; didn't come up in "the database..." So, charge the defendant with 55 counts of possessing illegal firearms and now they have the financial/legal burden of proving they are legal. If they can't, guilty. There's "justice" for ya. Punishment before, during, and after.
