I was a L/Cpl in Jan of 1986 when our base, MCAS (H) New River got HMMV’s at the motor pool. I was there getting my white license to drive 1008/1009/ M151. HMMV’s were so new, they wouldn’t let anyone besides Motor T guys drive them, they were afraid we’d break them somehow, so I never drove one while training. I showed up for my road test at the motor pool two to three weeks latter, and they give me a damn HMMV to drive…only in the Marine Corps…
