Buy a factory assembled complete upper for your first. All you need for the lower is a brass punch set, they're $20 IIRC.
I just purchased my first AR. This should be at my local ffl Friday. I'm under $600 after shipping and transfer. I also picked up 9 30rd mags for $58 shipped as well. I have been watching process drop lately and decided now was the time to buy. Look what I found on GunBroker!

That looked like a decent deal, but not quite sure who makes the rifle.
I see they have come down in price. The last one I looked at was over $650. Seeing that AR prices continue to drop and barring any unfortunate incident, this seems to be a good time to buy an AR.
