Well, we went almost a year with no major incidents. This morning a fox took 6 of the 9 pullets we had in a chicken tractor. It was a gamble until I could integrate them into the main pen. Lesson learned...

I happened to walk out the front door to move something that was blocking the garage door just after noon. Motion to my right and chickens going nuts. Caught a yote red handed snatching a hen 20 ft from the house. I ran back inside and grabbed my 12 gauge but couldnt find that yote. I dont think i would have had time to get a shot off with a pistol but im gonna start carrying always.

Home early with this rain. Happened to catch my dog looking out a window so I walked over to see the dang coyote in the driveway. It ate a guinea hen last night. Grabbed the 22 mag and got off 2 shots as he came around the back yard. Fast walk at 75 yds. I have to up my game. That was tough with open sights. Not sure that i connected.

"experienced animal handler" - Trained horses.

My sisters and I used to get chased by roosters growing up. We would go find ourselves some sticks and bailer twine and go set up an ambush for the buggers. Great memories.
At about eight years old, I figured out real quick that if you hit one of those SOB's full on, in a roundhouse/uppercut kinda way with a 2.5 gallon galvanized feed bucket, they'd not want that again. ;)
