Anyone try midlength on a 12.5"?
Wanting to build one here soon, I've read good and bad.
Will suppress at some point, but not for atleast a year or so

I've shot a couple without issue (for me). "Reliability" depends on port size, ammo, buffer etc. YMMV but I will take the longest gas system I can get if I'm going to put a can on it.

Yeah, if you aren't suppressing I'd stay carbine - then again I value reliability above all else.

Lots of variables of course and for a dedicated suppressor gun, I can see mid on 12.5" but my 11.5" is carbine - primarily suppressed but I don't want it to turn into a paperweight by just taking the can off.

I was starting to lean towards carbine. Figured I could just start going heavier on buffer and spring if needed later on.

AGB is going to be cheaper and more adaptable than buying h1-h5 buffers to figure out what works best. Suppressor design matters as well. Some of the new flow throughs are much more gas system agnostic than older designs.

It will be, but for now I do have tons of different weight buffers and springs haha
I'm definitely planning on an adjustable block though. Might just be after I play with it some.

I just built a 12.5 with a criterion core carbine length barrel and a SLR 11.7” handguard. Used a standard gas block. Should hit the range this week with a report. I have a feeling a BRT tuned gas tube is in the near future, rather than an adjustable gas block.

Got to the range today. The criterion core 12.5” carbine barrel shoots great suppressed and unsuppressed. They must have gotten the gas port just right. Standard gas block, springco blue spring, H2 buffer. I was shooting Igman .223 55gr and chrono’d 2750fps suppressed and 2700fps unsuppressed
