Sorry, but it’s not my job to make your dream of owning a gun shop come true.
I tried to support local shops but I’m not gonna get reamed.
I bought a new Glock from a local shop about 5 months ago. I followed them on FB and they sent me a 5% off coupon which they refused to honor because “it was only good for one month”. There was no expiration date on it.
    Support goes both ways.
Concur. support/respect is a two way street. Some of the gun stores I've been too (*Though not the locals ones I've been to so far) have been their own worst enemies.

I try to support every LGS in town but when I and my friends have more product knowledge then sales team it's hard. They don't keep up on factory rebates which would help move product and I've been flat out told that there's no such thing as random things I ask for sometimes just to see what they know. For instance I was told I meant .357 magnum not .327 magnum and more or less insisted I didn't know what I was talking about....that's just one off the top of my head but I'm constantly amazed at who they let work the sales counter. And as another member said it's not my responsibility to make your dream of owning a gun store come true. Business is business and if your not the best priced now a days buyers will consume else where from a business that is just happy making that smaller profit of each sale but doing WAY more total sales.

People with gun stores will be quick to tell you why $30 or more is a fair price for a simple transfer. Yes, quality control means more today but I'm not paying for multi-layer efforts on your part to do a simple task of logging data, then taking a minute to QC said data. That's a BS excuse to me. If you don't trust the person making the initial data entry, that's not my problem nor my financial burden to address.

They will also try to justify why the prices are so high... as already said/mentioned/alluded to by other posts, I don't mind supporting, but there is a reasonable limit.

When I had an FFL, competing with larger places simply wasn't possible. Now days distributors allocate high-demand items to their top sellers so the little guy has to source stuff via other means, which adds to the price.

My preferred FFL raised transfer fees to $30 EACH, no more discounts or "per 4473" price scheme. A flat $30 per item. So I simply went across town and it' s a flat-rate of $25 for what ever fits on a 4473.

I recently sold some pistols, old FFL wanted $100 to ship two pistols, new place, $30.

So with numbers like that... why should I support the larger more expensive store?

if they follow the law...I think you were supposed to or used to have to send pistols overnight...I'm not an FFL and my rememberer broke a while back. That may be the difference. I also remember when NDA was $50 but is now $80

I recently purchased 2# of black powder substitute from my LGS for about the same thing I would have paid with haz-mat and shipping...let the local guy get it.

An FFL can use USPS and it doesn't cost $100. FedEx and UPS require 2-Day Air for non-licensed persons. The last time I used my FFL before he went up sending my son his Glock was $40.

May a licensee mail handguns through the U.S. Postal Service?

Yes. Licensees may mail an unloaded handgun to another licensee in customary trade shipments. Handguns may also be mailed to any officer, employee, agent, or watchman who is eligible under 18 U.S.C. 1715 to receive pistols, revolvers, and other firearms capable of being concealed on the person for use in connection with his or her official duties.

I think, but didn't ask, my old FFL was going to charge me $30 per pistol for transfer services PLUS the shipping charge of $40... that's $100. So much for helping customers who buy from you and send people to you no?

Even services like SHIP MY GUN are not $100.

My new FFL is only charging me $30, which he said was the estimated shipping charge, He obviously isn't hitting me for an individual transfer fee. It could be $40, but it's an Airweight snub-nose so it won't weight much and the package won't be that big.

Went to some gun shops recently near Dothan, they had 1k 5.556 boxes for $800...double what I can have it sent to my house for.
Can't even count the number of $800 Mosins I've seen.
Please feel free to share your source for the $400 per 1k rounds, as I’d be all over that deal. Probably several others on the forum as well..

Ammoseek has multiple listings for around .45-.50 cpr, including one with free shipping at that cost for Igman.
So yeah, maybe not exactly half, but close enough that $800 is an absolute joke for a local sale.
I've seen some for less in the last few months, but it goes quick, like less than an hour and it's all gone.

Many years back, I went to a local gun store on Highway 29, Pensacola. I was looking for a Ruger 57. When I ask about the Ruger, the person behind the counter said "you mean FN 57". I said no Ruger. He insisted I go do my research and come back when I was ready to by the FN, He said there was no such thing aas a Ruger 57. So I have never been back to that store, and never will. I don't like their range policies.

I would really like to buy locally, but I rarely find anything remotely close to prices I can get online. A while back I saw a pistol that I really hadn't considered before, but it caught my eye. I nearly bought it but decided to do some research first. I discovered that even with shipping and FFL transfer costs, I could get it online and save nearly $300. I also consider the time, effort and driving costs associated with running around looking for something locally...and when I say 'locally,' that can cover several miles, as there are very few shops in my immediate area. On the rare occasions where a local shop has something for me at a decent price, I'll jump on it even though it may not be the 'best' price. Miles at Tradewinds definitely got some of my $ and it was sad to see him get shut down.

I remember when transfers here were all $25 and $5 for each additional. Now they want a flat $30 each, that's stupid for as you said, just typing in my info.
Has hampered my support of the local shops a lot. I actually was driving to Kiloton Tactical, which is almost an hour away, just because I like the shop and their prices are very reasonable, I'll drive father and give them my money before any of the garbage shops here in town.

Another example I see often is red dots priced way over what they can be had online for.
I bought a few Romeo5s for $100 when they were on sale, and they can be had all day for $125 shipped, but I don't think I've ever seen one in a shop for less than $200.

I agree w/War-Buff & wish I could buy more locally. I have no issue paying a bit more to a local dealer, as I know he may not be turning the volume that an online dealer does. But, I don’t want to pay hundreds more. What I don’t understand is the local dealers that advertise on gunbroker/guns America for considerably less than I can walk in & see advertised in the store @ the gun counter. I have been able to get a few of those gunbroker prices, but I definitely had to do my homework & flat out ask for it.
I understand that is takes a bit of time to make a gun call, but it takes a bit of time to box/ship fed ex as well for on line purchasers.

I haven't looked at AK mags recently but Foley Custom Guns had Magpul AR g2 for $14.99. I bought a US Palm AK 30 a year or two ago there for $14.99. (BTW, I have not had good luck with the all plastic 30rd US Palm AK mags, the metal reinforced worked fine.) They did replace it though.
Nick over at Foley Custom Guns is a good dude! I buy a lot of stuff from him and can spend hours in there talking to him.

People trash GB, and sometimes rightfully so, but there are sellers on there that I look to often for pretty good deals on used firearms.

Like brick and mortar stores, there are sellers that would rather sell to one sucker and make $50 than to two people and make $25 each.
