Outside of guns I know we all have different interests and hobbies.
I've always admired Corvettes and finally getting to a place where I feel comfortable owning one. I like sport cars in general but the C5 Z06 has always been held as my "affordable dream car" right or wrong. Anyone else in here have experience with these? Or similar. Maybe things to look for and stay away from?
I looked at a '97 yesterday that was in rough shape but cheap, dragged my feet and missed out. Probably for the best. Thanks for the insight

Well, that changes the equation a good bit. I don't know of any sports car that you guys would be comfortable in. If you ain't comfy, don't spend the money! The pick up is beginning to make sense now.
That would be an issue in any vette. I am 6-1 and 235. I work to get behind the wheel. Once in I am comfortable. But, even with seat back, it's work to get behind wheel.

Well this thread has met GCGF expectations! Haha!
Thanks for the insight fellas! I'm beginning to see the benefits of the C6 but, at this time, I just don't want to drop $25k into my first one. Unless someone has a line on a 6spd C6 that's not ragged out.

I’ve had my 2001 Z-06 since new, still brings a smile to my face everytime I drive it. Handles like it’s on rails, cheap to maintain and an awesome road trip machine.

I've only owned one Corvette in my life. This one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/MONOGRAM-1...488671?hash=item3db6e5581f:g:0J4AAOSwuB1gLA06

Or a very similar one. My class bought it for me when I was recovering from mono in junior high. I've been in love ever since.

Even when the love starts flagging, something revives it.

Like the blonde secretary where I worked, who drove a white 'Vette. You get the picture.

Like going to Corvette Carlisle in Carlisle, PA. Gave me a much better understanding of, and empathy for, how people get hooked on drugs and such.

Like the used car dealer in York, PA who used to specialize in used 'Vettes, and always had a solid handful on the lot.

And most recently, like my neighbor one street over, a good 'ole farmer in his 60s or maybe older, who would take his around the block every so often, and then park it. Let me tell you, a black 'Vette cruising slowly down the street is enough to give any normal guy a hard-on.

Having said that, I must now make my confession: I've never even sat in a 'Vette that I can recall. I want one, and it's on my post-retirement bucket list, but I am not sure I'll be all that comfortable in it. (I'm 5'10", 150, but I like my space.)

But it doesn't matter. The dream lives on, and the fantasy will survive. Like the saying goes, sometimes the trailer is better than the movie.

I prefer older cars. I have an 83 300TDT MB with the W123 chassis. Its a fun car.

This is a well written brief explanation about why vettes pull at some people's heartstrings and cause a stir in the soul.
Some, who cares. But, a zillion more keep the dream alive. Whether it's an older 3k driver that needs everything or a new loaded 100k z06, they make some of us daydream. I am one of them [for better or worse.

Corvette has had 50/50 weight distribution since the C6 , cab forward is the C8 designated reference. You can’t improve on 50/50 weight distribution with out all wheel drive , in my non professional opinion.

Actually in my (admittedly also a non professional but many years of amateur racing experience) opinion a car with 50/50 balance is very good but not optimal. For a really lively car with excellent turn in characteristics you want a more rearward weight balance. Look at most really fast cars (F1, Indy Car, IMSA Prototypes, etc.) and you will see they all have more weight over the rear. A good driver knows how to move the weight through suspension movements with braking, acceleration and steering to have the weight where he needs it when he needs it.

For most drivers the car with 50/50 balance feels more comfortable to drive fast but for all out speed most prefer to have a little more weight at the rear. Not too much as the car becomes very tail happy very fast, think early 911's. Usually the "optimum" balance is considered 57% rear, 43% front. Over the years I've driven a front heavy car (mustang), a 50/50 car (Porsche 944) and rear heavy cars (open wheel formula cars) on track at speed. The 944 was probably the easiest to drive fast but for all out cornering speed the open wheel formula cars or any car with a similar weight balance is best.

Now back to the subject of this thread. A 'Vette with 50/50 balance is going to be the best street driver. It will be the most confidence inspriring when going fast and feel great at more normal speeds!
