I loading my ammo not to be deadly since the in word with me is to most effective in stopping threats. If the low life dies from my most effective ammo, if I must let 12 good citizens of SRC figure it out.
I just ordered the below for my AR pistol-110 grain V-max 30 cal from hornady. I want to find a load that in a 7.5" will about 2000 in short barrel. Just saw a video where this works well at that speed at

I love shooting the 110gr Hornady TAP, we use to issue the 110gr TAP in .308 Win as our duty ammo.

Works grreat on hogs and coyote.

I have 1K of the 110gr. Z-Max bullets on the bench right now for loading. My Areo M5 rifles love the 110 TAP load, I will duplicate that load for sure. I'm getting @ 3045 from my 16" rifle.

I'd like to post here before the "don't use reloads for self defense because of liability" BS gets posted. DF is DF... period, matters not what you use, what matters is was the DF justified based on the Reasonable Prudent Person standard.

With that said, there are plenty of manuals with load data for jacketed bullets in both soft point and hollow point construction. Just select the same bullet weight and general design/construction, reduce 10%, and work up.

You will want a chronograph to compare your loads to factory samples.

By using data for a jacketed bullet in the same weight category and reducing by 10% and working up, you can safely account for any variations in bullet design. You don't have to have absolute data for a specific bullet.

Yep, when doing research for an article for a former employer I talked to my neighbor who at the time was a homocide investigator.
When I asked him about modified pistols and reloads he had the best response I've every heard. "Fuck, if you run over the guy instead of shooting them, I don't check to see if you have OEM tires and factory recommended air pressure. Why would I give a shit as long as the killing was justified."

Deadly Force (DF) is just that, but only in a criminal case determination as to justification on the use of DF

I do believe that custom hand loads might become a focal issue in a Civil trial that could result even in a justified shooting as a Wrongful Death Lawsuit. I have heard it from legal minds that had no dog in the fight, and I do believe that custom ammo could result in a favorable finding for the plaintive, if presented as the hand loads were deliberately made to be more deadly. So I avoid that possibility as I would rather NOT deal with jurist feelings or perceptions, especially after several of the jury experiences I had as an LEO. I try to use ammo used by local law enforcement agencies as much as possible just to help avoid such an issue being raised.

I keep my carry weapons stock for the most part, and only make changes I feel comfortable to be able to explain as to why I made them to satisfy a Civil Jury should that lawsuit occur.

I would think that if the prosecutor was so inclined to try to make a case using the shooters ammo selection,he could also take the "leap" directly to your weapon used, and its specific parts, and the general condition of the weapon
Any aftermarket parts added ?? Why ??
Any permanent mods to the weapon ?? Frame??
    Bbl length,contour,threaded ??
How about your (the shooters) training ?? Were you over trained or under trained ?? Your general physical condition ?? Your method of carrying your weapon ?? Holster ?? Belt ?? IWB or OWB?? Position on belt ?? 3 oclock ?? 4 oclock ?? Pocket carry??
WAAAAAAAAY too many things to worry about. I would rather concentrate on the happenings BEFORE having to present and shoot.

I've been saying it for years, Ayoob has scared more people out of defending themselves than anyone. That's not to say he doesn't have some good info, but from my research it's skewed with only part of the story told or with an extreme liberal Northeast slant.
Every case I'm aware of where the weapon became an issue it was because either the shoot was questionable or the shooter said something questionable like the gun just went off.

Kind of like the Self-Defense Pre-Paid Lawyer Service commercials... they cherry pick iffy cases and present them as common-place occurrences.

Agreed about Ayoob. I actually met him once at a IPPSC match while I was stationed in Calif.
He was there to show us some things related to weapon retension. This was actually back before the instructors really taught that part of "real life".
As I remember,he seemed extremely expieranced, knowledgeable, . . . and somewhat arrogant. Although the first two probably gave him the right to display the last. --- SAWMAN
