Here's the now finished block, made from a local CA black oak. I love the grain, the top kind of reminds me of a storm-tossed sea wave. Do you see the rain drops? The bottom cuts across the mediallary rays in just the right way, they disappear when turned just so....

Here's the prototype, made from reclaimed antique old-growth redwood decking. The inlay is smoked eucalyptus.
