I use hoppes for cleaning then was taught a nice trick and use a little of break grease now to lube the inside and just wipe the excess off. The outside of the weapon I will wipe down with a little CLP.
New and better products have a hard time in the market because there are so many false claims and people who just don't know they are not really protecting their weapons. Big difference in a warrior using his weapon daily to protect his life and us weekend guys or even people who pull their gun out for deer season only, they actually need the better product more due to neglect of their weapons.
In my opinion, Miller Lite provides superior lubrication and protection. For best results, top with a coat of Crown on the rocks. Works great, at least til the next morning.
I just started using frog lube and i'm pretty happy with how smooth the AR feels. I have yet to shoot any of my weapons lubed with it but i'm sure its going to be good based on what a lot of forum members say. I picked up the kit last week from Tradewinds in Navarre for $30
So the YouTube blogger Patriot did an update with the Frog Lube and the brake rotor. Frog Lube is used on the whole rotor. He heated one side and applied the FL and then left the other side at ambient when the FL was applied. So basically it's a test to debunk whether or not the metal has to be heated to get a good initial application of FL.
The short answer is; YES.
