Rumor has it that the reason why is because back with General Ike as President all the politicians got scared of a military coup (after General Ike as President openly warned the nation against the politicians) so the politicians took all the guns away from the military in garrison in CONUS. Any truth to that? Some say that's why we've never had any Generals like Ike for a president since then. May be a little bit of the same reason why North got axed from the NRA... too much of a good thing if you're a politician
