Hello I'm looking for a quality higher lumen flash light that can be taken off of the rifle for everyday use (multi-purpose), easy huh?. But here is the kicker..... It needs to take AA batteries to go along with the few other battery powered devices I have (like my EOTech 512). Yes I know cr123's are better in every way but one. I have a higher than average access to AA, hence why I chose it as my power platform. So any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks guys. Donkey.

Don't have any brands to suggest but one of the reasons why the good tac flashlights run the CRs is voltage/Mah versus size (I assume). Probably to get the Lumen output you'd want the flashlight would be a good deal larger and heavier.

FYI: Everything hi lumen that fits in a ring to be mounted to go on your rail has gone to the rechargeable 18650, they are cheap and do not run down when not used. I have at least 10 of these lights and will not go back. A few like the over priced Surefires use the 123 but they are not high lumen. The price of the flashlights using the 18650 batts and the batts is going to be cheaper and brighter than the light you are requesting.

Sean & Frank, I don't need a 1 mill lumen light just 100-150ish. Enough to light an indoor area. It will be longer but not that bad. I do agree cr's are better but AA are easier to come by. I found one light a while ago but have since lost all information to it. I might have to check out the rechargeable lights, any suggestions of one? Thanks guys.

I don't know about the light Frank is referring to but if it's rechargeable I'd say that would definitely be your best bet. Means it's probably a Lithium based cell and that's just plain old trouble free.

I understand your point about ready access to AA (I assume you mean you have a ready, cheap supply) but you just can't beat charge and forget. No self discharge when stored, no chance of leakage and ruining your light and not all AAs are created equally.

Thinking this through I want to hear more about Frank's light. I need to buy another one.

well you said a higher lumen, I have them from 140 to 3800 lumens...lol
yeah for about 10 bucks trustfire or ultrafire on ebay...take a look. for 140-280 lumen, will light a room up.

yes they are lithium Ion batteries, 18650 I run the 3000 and 5000Mah, meaning they will run longer than a 2400mah. My head lamp is 1200-1700 lumen, I get to see where I am going!

I use mine for hog hunting in the dark woods so all will light up a room.

Hey Frank thanks for the advice I've been looking around at the rechargeable flashlights like you said. At first I didn't know what mah was or how it affected the light, but I think I got it figured out now. Its the mah of the batteries thats most important. I think I'm going to go with this set up, (your opinions are more than welcome). If something is not compatible Please let me know. I think this with a 30mm mount will work well for my needs. Thanks eveyone.

Donkey, I have never seen that light but a 23mm body should fit in a QD 30mm ring, mine fit in a 1" Right batteries, so you are good to go. The mah only changes the run time of the light, so A OK
I try to get the lights that do not zoom and I like the ones with just on and off to mount on a gun, they tend to be less lumens too(240 or so).

I've got 2 of this model,, 139 lumens,,
1 on my AK & the other on my 9mm carbine mounted with scope rings in front of my VFG
    $27-$31 at Wallyworld & others

I have one of those, not sure of the model, on my possum getter. It's a 60 year old .22 that is super accurate. I used one of those Nebo clamp on quick-release mounts from Walmart on the barrel. Just flip the lever to take it off. It does a great job of lighting up a possum at 50 yards. Not sure how it would hold up on anything with real recoil. The smooth area towards the rear is close enough to 1" that a standard scope ring holds it just fine.

I bought a light at the Gun show a couple of years ago. Don't know what brand it was (not a big name brand), rated for 160 Lumens and mounted it on my Moss 500. Went out to shoot it and didn't have the tools to remove it. After about 40 rounds I checked the light and it didn't work. I was worried about the recoil and sure enough it did a number on the light. When I got home I tore the light apart and found broken solder joints. I beefed up all of the connections and it works like a charm in all modes.
