We got a cull buck the lease members were targeting for last 2 years.
Only 1 pic of him this year from another member - we had not gotten any pics of him this year.
But he showed up yesterday, and we got him.
I'd guess he weighed between 140-150 pounds, was in good health and had at least 1" fat all over.

Now here where I want suggestions:
We strung him up and skinned him.
That fat stuck to my knife like glue - Wouldn't wipe off with rag, wouldn't wash off with water hose and even covered the edge such that it quit cutting.
Switched to a second knife and it soon covered that one, too.
Had to scrape the fat off the knives using one knife on the other and vise-versa just to finish.

So does anyone have any remedies or techniques for dealing with this sticky fat?

(Cleaning the knive) Hot hot hot water & dawn dish soap. On hotter days… I’ve even left the fatty knife in the window on the truck dash before and the heat pretty much melted the fat.

I’d 1,000% rather clean a fresh warm bodied deer than a deer that’s hide is pretty much frozen.

Hot water, dawn and a scrub brush.

As for type of knife, I prefer a caping knife for cleaning.

IMO The best deer cleaning knife. (You’re gonna get several different opinions.) The guthook works great on the thinner skinned deer we have in the south. Only $23 also! Pensacola store is currently out of stock because I bought them all for Christmas presents this year. lol
