Up for sale is a vintage US Military M261 .22 conversion kit for the M16 (or AR15). The M261 conversion kit was introduced by the military in 1978 and used throughout the 1980’s. It is a drop-in conversion kit that replaces the bolt carrier group, and a .22 magazine insert that fits in a regular M16/AR15 magazine.
Spare parts and magazines are readily available from Sarco still, and Black Dog Machine makes high capacity magazines for the M261, but actual M261 conversion kits are apparently hard to find now. I could not find any for sale online, except for 2 on eBay for $389-$600
The one that I’m selling is used, and it has some pitting, but it drops in and functions great.
This is a great military collectible for your AR15 and a great way to save money by shooting .22 out of your AR15. I’m pricing it at $140 so it should be a great deal for someone! IMG_2915.jpeg

I forgot to mention in the original listing that this M261 has a very unique or low serial number, as seen in the pictures. It is SN 126- with nothing else. Every other M261 that I’ve seen has been a 3 digit prefix with up to a 6 digit number! I have no idea what how much this affects the value or collectibility of it, but I’ve never seen another one like it!
