i really like the look, the wood gives the gun a completely different aesthetic.
whose furniture kit did you use?
were you happy with the fit and finish?
    did it require any mods?
    TIA

    Ironwood Designs' A1 stock kit

I did the finishing myself. It required some final sanding and buffing before I applied the oil finish. There were no mods needed. Everything fit perfectly.

What did it do to the weight of the gun? Before and after?

I honestly could not tell you. I built the lower assembly and I did not bother to weigh the upper assembly before I changed out the handguards. I will say this, at 8 lbs .3 ozs, it is 8.7 ozs less than this A4 build I did. It weighs 8 lbs 9 ozs.

    TackleberryMCS,
it looks like there are 3 or 4 companies making wood furniture kits for the AR, is there any reason you chose this particular kit?

I looked at the others, but kept coming back to the Ironwood Designs kit. It is more like the original furniture that would come on the M16s. That is what I wanted. The others were fancier and did not do anything for me.

Does that make it a "sometime shooter" or "just a wall hanger" or "not till SHTF shooter?"

I refer to it as a presentation shooter. Although it looks too nice to shoot, I did shoot it for the first time this morning. It shoots well. It will get shot again, but not very often. I built this because I had always thought about it and I wanted to build something that was different from any AR I have built in the past 12 years. With 44 AR-15s and a couple more in the works, I have many ARs that I will shoot a lot more often. I even have my SHTF ARs already designated.

That is a beautiful build. If I put one in a tuxedo, I would not let it go to the playground! Lol. Was this your great white whale? It will be hard to top that one.

It will be hard to top. I have to say that it is the nicest looking AR I have ever built. Like I said, it shoots very well too. It is not just another pretty face.

You are always welcome. BTW, I may take you up on the shadowboxing idea.
