It merely means that someone wants to carry on a conversation that everyone does not need to see. It could involve an offer that no one else needs to know about as it is a private sale. It could even be that someone wants to convey some info that does not need to be seen by everyone. Not everything on the forum is everyone's business.

I completely agree, but brass tacks, no nonsense "I'll take it" gets the job done if you really have to have it. I will post "PM sent" so the person can at least acknowledge I sent a message. Sometimes I don't get notifications. But pm sent can also mean I have this rusty old break open I'll trade you even for your FN high power. Lol. I've had people try to trade me go carts without a motor and flat tires........ I do get stereotypical at some "PM sent" posts but understand why people who are truly interested do it.

I always thought people posted 'pm sent' to help ensure that the recipient will see it, as some might not notice the notification in the upper corner of the screen.
