I have been solely using the plastic guns for quite a while after trading in my metal framed pistols. For some reason my nostalgic side has surfaced and I have a hankering for a 1911, maybe a lightweight model, maybe in 9mm. Lots of possibilities these days.

Please remind me why I don't NEED one.

I caved long ago, resistance is futile. Since you used the term "nostalgic", you've got some 1911 time, and will select a good one.

With the Pro and Cons, age of design and new tech considered: it's still a Classic! I like full size all steel in 45 ACP as intended. I prefer eight rounders with lowered/flaired ejection ports (pretty standard now). Doesn't matter if it as a internal or external extractor or ambi safety. I don't like origional GI sights but wish Series 70 guts and a lanyard loop was still standard. I utterly despise plastic parts replacing metal parts (weight savings be damned like with alloy), weight mitigates perceived recoil.

The only real decision is rail/ambi safety or not? Lol

    Welcome back!

Well, this would be the perfect time to snag a RIA 9mm/.22TCM :)

If you reload at all, the .22TCM uses .223/5.56 cases!
So you just cut your crimp-damaged cases to spec and enjoy :)

    Oh, well, need...everyone NEEDS a Star Megastar 45 :D

If you are gonna shoot a big bullet,
might as well get a big gun to handle it :D

Since you used the word "nostalgic" my input would be - - -> gotta have "COLT" on it somewhere. MUST be chambered in 45ACP. Should probably be a "Series 70". Only mod would be a good set of night sights.
Shoot the crap outta it. The more it's shot the better it becomes. Carry it/store it in a nice tight holster. After the first 20 years or so,you will learn to appreciate each and every scuff mark that slide has on it.
I have had quite a few 1911's in my time. The only two that I still own are a Series 70 frame and a Series 70 complete gun. --- SAWMAN

Remington R1... for $400 after rebate, IMHO, this is a smoking deal.....this is the price of all those 1911's made in the Philippines, but better. Don't forget there is still shipping of $7.99 plus the FFL fee on your end.

    The handgun:

    Rebate:

P.s. The R1 enhanced was an even better deal at the then price of $599-100 rebate, but grab a gun raised it price back to about $650, opportunity missed.

Because if you do, you'll maybe shoot a box of rounds thru it, put it in the safe waiting for the Apocalypse that will never come, then end up selling it for way less than you paid. Not to mention if you paid with a CC, the monthly apr-% added to the total cost each month, if you didn't pay it off w/i 30 days. So it's a lose, lose deal. Save the money and take a vacation. So list your other good guns here to help fund that vacation. :tea:

Gold Cup, National Match - you NEED a couple. Feed the Pony. Put the plastics on a diet for a while.

You need a Springfield TRP Operator. Just saying,.....got one listed on here for a good price. Get back into the 1911 game with a TRP and I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied. Every time I get the itch for another 1911 I'll handle the prospect and just shake my head, nothing close to my TRP. Every other 1911 feels likes its on sandpaper rails compared to my TRP
