I have a P365 with a matte stainless slide that’s getting some spot rusting what’s the best way to remove it and prevent more from forming?

I have not tried this on gun parts. May be a very bad idea.

EvapoRust has worked very well for rust removal. It is not acid based. It uses a chelating agent. It is very gentle. I have removed rust without any steel or bronze wool but requires soaking the part for some time (like overnight).

I have noticed it turns steel parts a couple of shades darker. YMMV

I have rust on a blued rifle barrel. I’ve been contemplating what to do about it too. Just surface rust. My FIL bought it for my son and it’s going to just be sitting since he’s only one lol

I believe, because bluing is also oxidation, products like this may remove the finish. That said, I am not speaking from experience, probably hearsay.

Stainless Steel, won't scratch blued barrels either. But it has to be Stainless Steel. Not the steel wool/pad for cleaning pots and pans.
I've cleaned my blued barrels many times with stainless steel pad, nary a scratch.
Hall's Hardware in Milton sells them for a couple of dollars each.
And if you're still leary about using it, I'll use it on my blued barrel while you watch.
I'm in Milton, so just let me know when you have time to meet.

I have used Japanese rust erasers to remove spots from stainless revolvers and blades, and 0000 steel wool with mobile 1 to remove spots from a blued shotgun barrel.

This is the Best ,Safest Product on the market .I've been useing it for years.
Just oil it and go over it gently ,will remove rust and will not hurt the Blueing.
Its a combination of stainless and an alloy.

The thing about Florida/Gulf Coast is RUST...
if you don't have a Goldenrod in your safe, yer screwing up.
Salt air goes everywhere...so every Change of Season,
I'm breaking all the guns out to inspect and lube.
    Yep, every three months.
This also prevents loosing one in the back of the safe ;)

It's slightly overkill, but it also solves that white powdery mold
that can crop up as well.

I’ve used 0000 steel wool on my blued guns with oil and have never scratched the bluing
It must be 4 aught (0000) not 3 aught (000)

As mentioned above, I use 0000 Steel Wool and a decent amount of oil, have used it on Blued Steel with great results. Never tried stainless with it.

Guns are made of the stainless that ironically will surface rust and leave a spot, or stain...
