So last thursday night I got up to eat dinner with the family. Well I only made it halfway to the kitchen. I started feeling very disoriented and very light headed. That's the last I remember till I woke up in the ER bed.

My wife said I stopped talking to her and just had this blank stare on my face and then started to have full body convulsions. She immediately called 911.

They said I apparently had a pulmonary embolism pass from my lung to my brain. They said it was most likely from my spinal surgery and just decided to come loose now.

I'm now on blood thinners and will be released tomorrow. Will be having a bunch of neurology and pulmonary visits now over the next few weeks.

I'm still going strong and kicking though.

That is one reason I avoided an offer by a specialist to do an operation on my back that is gradually improving on it own. I can run a bit and lift. I just have to sit down every so often. I probably will go to a pain management specialist.
Sometimes there is not choice like there is for me.

I did very conservative treatments first. Started with physical therapy, accu puncture, trigger point injections, yoga and epidural shots. Absolutely nothing worked. Pain was 24/7 and radiating down both my arms to my hands to the point of not being able to do my job as a medic.

This was my last resort sadly.

Very scary. Hopefully the thinners work and you can get off of them and go back to normal. Huge bullet you dodged. Hope you continue to thrive as you are.

Often exercises for stomach and lower back helps a lot. Surgery is risky, especially these days.
