Did some light searching thru previous threads, who's the "go to" for trigger work on revolvers these days?
This would be cleaning up a S&W Airweight

Be cautious, sometimes a light trigger yields a light primer strike, and the double action becomes non reliable, and you really want a reliable double action in a defense gun. Been there done that.

Understood. This is for an older individual whose strength isn't what it it used to be. Next option is a different type pistol for HD.

I used this kit as well. Turned out perfect. I would second recommendation. I installed myself. But I would not recommend that if you're not comfortable or patient to work with springs under pressure.

I recently got the Apex kit for my 340PD and while it does make a difference, don’t expect a target trigger. TK Customs trigger kit is lighter, but didn’t always ignite cheaper ammo. The Apex didn’t have that issue

As far as smoothing out the action, there are several videos on YouTube showing the disassembly and polishing the wear points in j frames. That’s where I’d look if they’re married to that gun.

Why an airweight for HD? If they aren’t carrying it they might choose something else.

While I consider myself mechanically inclined, I stay away from triggers and let a more accomplished ’smith do that for me.

Is there a GCGF list of “trusted” gunsmiths, by chance?

S&W 's are one of the easier DA revolvers to do an action job on . Springs are the half-assed way & may bite you on the ass on a SD gun . Polishing of internal parts , good quality moly paste / lube does wonders . Most of the internals are only case hardened to a depth of only .003" & if you stone / polish thru that part is junk . A light touch is all that's needed . You're goal is to reduce friction . The moly lube will burnish / wear itself into the surface further reducing friction . The smaller J frames use a coil spring for a mainspring , the larger use a leaf spring . A leaf can be modified by shaving , bending & thinning . Coil spring you either have to replace or trim . Rebound spring selected also has an effect on pull & reset .
