Small chips. While none of it is good, I believe the Republicans that are in for it think it's all about safety and not taking our rights. Article even mentions it doesn't change anything for law abiding citizens. Criminals don't follow the law.

The “framework” is anti-gun and anti-freedom. Period. Why do people insist on compromising bedrock Rights?
-Red Flag laws are a blank check to a blanket group of individuals to bypass due process and violate Multiple rights delineated in the Bill of Rights. What could possibly go wrong.
-More restrictions on personal builds of firearms? That’ll stop those criminals.
-More restrictions on FFLs. Let’s make their job more difficult and prohibitive.

I thought the something similar when I read that quote. In a less broken society, people would honor and value life, the family unit would be a priority, raising your children and being an active participant in their lives would be more important than selfish desires and letting schools and society raise them.
Guns are more restricted today than any other time but the degradation of faith and family is at its worst than any other time as well. Any parallel? I think so but those require more effort to solve than banning guns.
