My son in law is coming off deployment in a few months and I want to get him a black powder rifle for Christmas. Suggestions?

Sincerely appreciate the offer but I have a feeling a little more than I want to spend.

See if you can find a CVA at Walmart (wolf is the lowest end in their line)
    Should be around $225
Typically they come with a cheap scope, that I recommend upgrading when the funds are available.

I shoot a magnum load 150gr of Triple 7, with a Hornady SST .45 Sabot... I killed a nice public land 7pt last year at 153yds, and the next morning killed a nice pig. It's accurate, and puts them down.

I had a CVA when I first got into muzzleloading ten years ago, served me well. I soon later bought a Knight disk extreme and that was even better. This was back when they were $400 new. If I were going the expensive route it would be a knight or TC Encore. If I were going the cheaper route nothing wrong with CVA.
