Possible Scam on GCGF

I posted a WTB ad, and a newly created account with no post history messaged me that another seller (off site) had the item and provided email contact for that person.

User Rojas88 was the user who messaged me. I contacted email address, and a person responded—gave a reasonable price shipped via PayPal. Got a pic of the item after a couple requests to provide an image. No identifying info in pic.

PayPal email address provided is different than the one I was communicating with, indicating a different name.

I used TinEye to reverse image search the pic provided with no hits. I’m just feeling some red flags on this one.

Those are always a scam.

Most likely a scam due to it being a brand new account. But the PayPal I use is different than my email because it’s my wife’s PayPal account… so you can’t always go by that

100% scammy. if no time, date, member handle in pics, don't fall for it. report the member to moderators and we'll determine if its fake. we try hard to keep it scammer free on here but there's only so much we can do if account doesn't show anything fishy... always, ALWAYS report this kind of activity please!

Scammers like PayPal for gun scams because their terms of of service prohibit using the service for firearms, thus if you file a buyer protection claim for a gun, they will not pursue it.

See this sort of thing all the time on other gun classified sites.

Just say COD or local ftf only and don’t entertain them unless you have nothing better to do.

It's probably a scam but if it's a good deal and you really want it, send it goods and services and pay the 3%. You don't get the item, 99% of the time PayPal will give you your money, just don't mention one word about guns, or anything related in your dispute. That said, it's easier to just walk.

This happens fairly regularly on here. There are plenty of other threads on here with the same subject.
