I watched a 9/11 special last weekend. Brought it all back into clear focus. Like the OP says "NEVER FORGET"!

I was leaving for work that morning when my girlfriend (now wife) called and said a "small plane" had hit the first tower. All I could figure out was the weather was lousy and some idiot had been scud running in a 172 and nailed the tower. Stopped by Warrington Hardware and the lady at the cash register had the TV on. I was standing there looking at the broadcast of the first tower and thought "that ain't no 172 that did that". Then the second airliner hit and I went into corral the family mode. My oldest daughter was working at Pensacola.Aviation (still does) and I called her and demanded she get clear of that place. She left work. Went by and picked my gf up and we sat at home watching NAS going on alert and trying to explain to a bunch of teens and 20 yos about true evil and a quick history lesson.

Lost a dear friend that day in all the mayhem. I was working at a group home in Albany, NY the day it went down. Just got the kids off to school and I laid on the couch the rest of the day in disbelief. Remember my mother called me freaking out because I worked 3 blocks away from all the office buildings in the States Capitol and she was worried they would hit there next. Fukking POS cowards

I remember sitting in the Chief's mess watching the events unfold on the TV. Staring in disbelief at the carnage being wrought. We were underway the next day patrolling the east coast. Being born and raised in NYC hard to imagine the towers gone! Never forget!

i was doing a power plant start up in Guam's (Marietta islands)......we were grounded for 9 days after that.
I didn't get to talk to my 14 yo son and his step mom for 4-5 days....
it was a MF'r in my point of view from my angle.
we did not get the pics yall got or the damage. so it was not until I got in Atlanta airport before I knew the real story,
2 weeks later. funny how modern tech is much better in that part of the world.....but there was no great concern
with the U.S. at that time as some of you should remember.

after that incident, I spent several weeks up there with underground utilities engineers trying to work out
    a distribution plan.

I will never forget what happened that day... and what I encountered weeks later.......

I guess I am over it, more worried about the lack of security on our Southern border and what may happen on each anniversary than I am dwelling in the past. Clinton could have stopped it by taking Bin Laden into custody when he was offered him. A total failure of the intelligence community. I would rather be more active in stopping another 9-11 from happening. God Rest the souls we lost but even more-so for the troops that have died trying to fight the extremists, lots more people affected since 9-11 than at 9-11.

I was one just hitting the sack when my radio went off. I was asked to report to Connecticut's Governor John Rowlands home.

Myself the governor, his driver(State Police officer) and his aid left his home at noon that day.

I was the Head Field Supervisor for Pinkerton Armed Security in the Connecticut area. My company provided security for all the Government & Federal buildings as well as all Pratt & Whitney & Hamilton Standard facilities. I had all the codes and keys to get into all the buildings .

All facilities were placed on lockdown .

We traveled for 3 days nonstop visiting all emergency centers in the state and all buildings.

At 8pm on that very night we met up with a military convoy headed to ground central in New York City.

A ride that normally took 2hrs took the convoy almost 7hrs. We were met at the state line and escorted in by New York State Police. Every 30 minutes or so we'd have to pull over to allow fire companies from all over the New England area to pass by on their way into help.

The governor met with New York & New Jersey officials to offer any assistance they could provide.

I stood by the governors vehicle we were parked about 2 miles away from the towers. Even after the many hours that had passed the smoke still lingered in the air making it hard to breathe .

Occasionally groups of firemen & police officers would walk by just barely able to walk. All thou at times this city was known for being a corrupt gang laided area where you'd never really want to be. It didn't come off that way in those early morning hours.

People came out of their homes & businesses and offered food, water & beverages to anyone needing it. I saw homes being opened to fire & law enforcement officials to rest and clean up.

We were there only a short time but in the next few days we traveled around Connecticut and saw people were sure very scared not knowing what else would happen, But I also was able to see just how proud a lot of true Americans are of their country.

Yes we did meet up with occasional looters and yes most Pratt & Hamilton & even a few Government facilities had bomb scares called in. But for the most part everyone pulled together .

I've never been back to the site since leaving it that early September 12th morning .

Truthful it took awhile to get some of the things I saw out of my mind. But I think the actual first responders and the many crews that worked for days had it a lot harder.

When I did finally return home it was wonderful to just be able to hold my wife.

My company lost 18 officers that day as we provided security for the Towers & had a office there as well. I had only a few weeks before met a few of them at a training session the company held

I was on the first day of a two week stretch at the burn unit as USA Medical Center Mobile. I was in an explosion while working at a crude oil pumping station in Frisco City, AL. I was jacked up on morphine fading in and out and saw the first plane hit, nodded out, woke up and saw the second one hit. Thinking the news station was showing the first hit again I could not figure out how one tower was smoking already when the second one hit. The next two weeks crawled by.

I was working in the Network Telephone Network Operations Center in downtown Pensacola, we spent the day checking online for additional news about what exactly had happened. Couldn't wait to get home that day and hold my wife and son. Then we turned on the TV and watched the news and saw the videos of everything and couldn't believe our eyes. Yes, a day I will never forget. God bless all the souls who lost their life that day and those who continue to fight for our freedom today.

The wife woke me up and told me about the towers and about the plane that they were chaseing. I said shoot it down, didn't know at the time those brave men had rushed the cockpit and it had crashed. A couple of the OLD Timerss at work brought there 38s from home and kept them in there pickups.

We had to look in the backs of all the trucks that came into the plant. Those in charge just didn't realize now much explosives you can put into a cab of a tractor. We didn't look there.

It was a sad day for the country.

Not so much a failure of the intelligence community as a failure of the top leaders to allow us to take action on the intelligence we got. I am a member of the intelligence community and I can say that the US intelligence machine is the best on earth. But when we pass along intel, it ends up in the hands of ladder climbers and politicians. Then, the failures really start to happen.
