Has anybody had success with mounting optics on an old style mini 14?
I have looked at many options but have not found one that looks like it would be durable without impacting ejected brass.
The best option I have found so far is to change out the gas tube cover with an aluminum cover made to mount optics on but that would put the optics too far out.
It is a stainless boat / truck gun with polymer stock. Looking for corrosion proof / resistant mounts.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Seems to me that any attachment for a scope that took the place of the hand guard ass'y would be sitting too far forward aka a "scout" configuration. This would make the eye relief of the scope somewhere in between a pistol and a rifle. You would have to use either a IER "scout" scope or a zero parallax red dot sight of some kind. It's attachment would be kinda iffy as to the solid mount....solid enough for the "two way" recoil of a semi-auto.

I do believe that a mount is made that takes the place of the bolt lock cover plate. As I remember it locks on with the use of a huge thumb screw. I would think that this system would be somewhat iffy also. --- SAWMAN

I had an aluminum side mount B Square on an old Mini 14 I used to have. It would not keep zero. I never could hit anything with that gun.

Re. that damn old Weaver. I have one here that someone gave me years ago. It still works. Has the old yellow bax and some kind of mount in it. Actually...it looks like the mount that you have there. Of course no batts to contend with. Free to you sir. If you want it you will have to come get it. I figure it would be good or parts anyway and I will never use it. --- SAWMAN
