The reason a licensed veterinarian is in the loop is for FEED ANIMALS in the chain for Human consumption.

“Human-primate” medical doctors often have No Clue about zoonotic diseases and cross-species impacts. Heck, even though rabies is a horrible way for humans to die, most human-primate specialists know Very Little about that disease.

Veterinarians have to know about “more than one” species.
Since they are humans themselves, they have an inate motivation, AND a legal one, to use their professional skills and knowledge to protect the species.

Bottom line: if it’s a feed animal, or in the food chain for human consumption (ex: honey bees), it is supposed to see a veterinarian before medication is administered, or it should be removed from any possibility of entering the human food chain. This isn’t as “new” as this thread seems to imply.

You may want to educate local vets if thats the case. No one makes house calls as needed in sw pensacola. Baldwin animal only comes this way once a week last i heard.

Educate them on what? That there aren’t enough of them? That they don’t get paid enough for the services they provide? That they are constantly competing with “Dr.Google”-educated clients who want something for nothing?

If a person owns a food animal, they should have a relationship with a veterinarian. If not, then there isn’t much room to complain about a vet not doing a housecall at the drop of a hat for a brand new client.

Self-administering meds can be dangerous. There are interactions and wash-out times to consider. If ignored, the follow-on animal can suffer. Aplastic anemia, etc. On a larger scale than just one animal, the overuse of antibiotics is a real problem for all species, not just humans. Irresponsible use is one way to create resistant superbugs.

If someone is raising feed animals for their own use and insists on not using a veterinarian for consult, then they run the risk for themselves, but what happens if that animal is sold and someone else gets sick? What if someone in their own family gets sick? Can be held legally responsible.

Yes, there aren’t enough veterinarians practicing on large animals. That’s a real shortage of service.

Don’t blame them, though. Animal medicine isn’t subsidized like human medicine is. Veterinarians don’t get to charge anywhere near what their time and education is worth because every single cent of their gross pay comes from their client. Human-primate specialists (“MD”s) charge exorbitant prices because the medical insurance pays a large portion. People think their medical bills are high, but it isn’t a fraction of what the doctors and hospitals make. All subsidized by “taxpayer” money. But no taxpayer subsidies for animal medicine, not even food animals, so the vets get paid diddly and the ranchers/etc eat ALL of that cost.

Have a professional relationship with a veterinarian.
Get a prescription from a veterinarian, if meds are needed.
Get your medicines from a reputable source.

Why run unnecessary risks with a food animal?

I bet people who insist on "all natural" food don't hesitate to take meds when they are sick... Hmmm;)
And some who believe there will come a point where government-controlled medicine cannot be trusted, or might not even be available due to one's affiliation/beliefs, may have viewed veterinary medicines as a viable alternative. Possible link to underlying and opposing agenda/ideologies? Nah, probably not. The government is all about us.

Yes that is true. I have cattle and livestock. Their trying to shut down the farming industry. Getting medicine for animals will cost so much you won’t be able to to raise them. This country is in a communist takeover.
This is scary stuff. If the producers quit the game then i guess we all better learn to like lettuce.

Seafood is the only source of protein big enough to feed all of us without cultivation. Everybody inland will move to the coasts or starve.

Heres a scary fact. My wife is a chemical oceanographer. Acidification of the sea is going to kill the food chain eventually

Seems the intnet is to keep the masses on a low/no fat/protein, soy-based diet designed to keep those who "subsist" on it compliant and docile. You can read that as "prison diet." Ask your favorite inmate. Better yet, ask why men in their 20's-30's are taking erectile dysfunction meds because their little buddy won't rise to the occassion. Diet link? Yeah, I think so.

@IronBeard Nevermind the micro-plastics currently dosing all the plankton all over the world with estrogen mimickers and so reducing the base food production for what higher seafood life forms we eat. And then there's the bioaccumulation (like with heavy metals) with micro-plastics... we all have estrogen mimicker micro-plastic in our blood now affecting all our little buddies

Well, I can see 60 from here and don't have any problems/complaints. Otherwise, Dude, I spent my first 18 years in a steel mill town. I've been exposed to and survived so much crap it just doesn't matter anymore
