    What route would you go?

Seeing all these pictures of 10/22's has got me thinking.

If you were to build a 22lr rifle, would you start with a 10/22, an AR platform, or something else entirely? What would be the purpose of the rifle? Would you build it for accuracy, plinking, reliability, novelty, etc?

I'm considering a project for next year and I'm looking for ideas.

I do a savage with a threaded bull barrel and build it for all but novelty. Top it off with a suppressor for stealth varmint mgmt.
Used to have a jones for a tactical 10/22, but have changed my viewpoint on that.

I will post up some pics of my project. Its a mid grip bolt action in .22 lr based on the REM xp design. Everything but the barrel will be one off products.

I had a ST 22 dedicated upper that I got through this forum. It fit the bill for all those things you mentioned. It went with my AR when my nephew bought it so I still have access to it if I want, which is nice. : )

I want a Marlin Micro-grooved barrel on a 10/22 body so I can use the BX25 mags with the Marlin 60 accuracy.

I've thought about this for a while and I always change my mind.....right now I'd start as 10/22 and use the HTA conversion...looks like FN P90...then wait for the zombies

10/22 with a target barrel and thum hole stock,35.00 target hammer you can install at home and you are good to go.

Edit, You would be able to hunt, plink and target shoot all in one gun.

Recently Little Jack's Guns built a .22lr upper for my SBR AR lower.

6.5" CMMG bbl. 7 1/4" Troy railed handguard (so as to cover all the bbl and about half my suppressor and have room to mount thermal sight in front of red dot or other short day optic). Stainless steel .22 kit (so as to be slicker for functioning and easier to clean). Flat top AR for optic mounting.

Intended use: short, light, quiet .22 AR, easy for carrying at night for armadillo hunting. Lightweight for the grandkids and daughter and daughter-in-law to shoot. Easy to pack for trips to brother's farm in Georgia. It has exceeded my expectations. Has proven to be very reliable. Nicely accurate with Wolf Match Target ammo and Gemtech subsonic. Fine for practice and plinking with most other std vel ammo. High velocity ammo can crack the sound barrier, but still shoots fine.

Here should be a picture of a Remington 580 that I built to play around with some informal benchrest. Stock is a Kelby, barrel is from a H&R m12. I changed the pivot point on the trigger and stoned it, getting a 3 oz. pull.

I would have to go for accuracy.
Believe me I am a fan of 10-22s and have several, one since 1970, but you can sink $1000 in a 10-22 and it still will not compete with some other .22s.

Just buy an Annie (Anschutz) and be done with it. Enjoy it instead of beating your head against the wall trying to make the others shoot.

    $0.02

If you are just looking for a fun project then by all means build a 10-22. There are more accessories out there than you can ever sort through.
