    More than a few of the prohibition Era gangster did have one. Baby Face Nelson carried one as did Machine Gun Kelly if memory serves right. Colt made a few prototypes, but there was a gun smith in Chicago that based his whole business around building full auto colt 1911 pistols. I can't remember his name for the life of me right now and my Google - fu is weak today.
