One reason I like the 7.62x39 is the same reason the Russians choose it and why the germans chose an assault rifle in 7.92x33. Most combat is at much closer ranges. I do not have the skill to reliably hit a man size target at extended ranges under real conditions that different from a square range. Even spotting someone at such distance and knowing it is someone that needs to get versus some collateral person is beyond what I can do. I want the heavier hard recoiling .308 when the extrapower is required.
For longer ranges some of the 6.5's like the 6.5 WSM are guns for those that want to do such things.
Most Combat within the 300 yard Kill Zone is Fatal!
So if you can't reliably hit a man size target beyond the 300 yard kill zone, at best you are going to trade exterminating blows with the OPFOR. This is not the recipe for survival? JMHO.

Don't tell others to expect your demise if they have options to perform otherwise!

It's not that hard to perform on the 300 or 600 yard KD Range with simple Boot camp Training. The USMC has done it for decades.

If the democratic socialists accomplish half of their agenda , the price of ammunition will be the least of most folks problems.
That's a great point. I see youtuber's talking about women playing on men's football teams, etc. while the communists appear to have just stolen the election and turned us into the world's greatest banana republic. So, yeah, we have some problems that will not be going away soon.

As long as they don't start gouging banana pudding I'm ok. Start gouging banana pudding and you've got a problem.

Gotta love how quickly these topics can go off topic, lol.

I was an FFL and paid the SOT. Funny thing about limited resources; machine guns aren’t being made any more. In a market with scarce resources, prices continue to rise. Was I gouging when I sold an m16 for 28k that sold for 700 in the 80s? No, I was selling at current market rate. Replacing the item is hard to do. Sometimes a dealer might find someone looking for fast cash on a gun, say 24k, but it has to move on a form 4. Well, there’s a long wait on that. There is risk.

So free markets are always adjusting due to supply and demand. There is no such thing as gouging. People in the market place are taking risks, and everyone is always looking to find something for a low price so they can move it for more money.
