Today I was first hand witness to the deal of the century.

At Buck & Bass on Pine Forrest Rd. (P'cola) they had a whole stack of ....... uhhhhhh ....... not new,50cal ammo cans for the unbelievable price of $29.99 each. Yeah, you heard it right --> $29.99 each. I told the young kid that works there ...... "for that price they out to come full". While he seemed to be pondering it,i promptly left the store.

I stop in there every now and then when I am going to and from the VA or NavHosp and just gotta say that in the 4 or 5 years that I have been stopping by,I have NEVER seen anything that was priced even close to the other LGS's in the area. Not Mile's,not Jay's,not even close to Uber's ..... nobody is as EXPENSIVE as Buck & Bass. Why do I stop in then. Don't know really. Just need the LGS "fix" I suppose. Not anymore. That's it for me.

I have been giving mine away. Thinkin' maybe sell and buy that new Robinson. (???)

I went to Gander Mountain because they were having a 50% off clearance sale. I swear I could not find anything firearms related that was on clearance. The prices were stll too high.

I have never been to Buck and Bass- guess I won't bother to now.

I stop by there periodically myself just for browsing. His prices, as the owner told me, were based on what he got the product for at the time plus his mark up. This came up when I asked why he had the same primers priced differently, one being about $15 more than the other.
Glock prices have always been $30 or more than anyone else local. I assume his loyal customer base keeps the doors open. The staff have always been nice and helpful, I enjoy browsing from time to time and some of the ammo prices are fair.
It will continue to be a stop-by place for me.

Back in the day when nobody cared about guns, shtf, and gun owners, things were cheap

I can't figure out at what point the prices of surplus ammo boxes quadrupled and why. You used to be able to pick them up everywhere for $2 or $3.
Heck, for even $10 I would rather have the commercially produced plastic ones. Less chance of bumping furniture, etc and scarring it up than with the metal ones.
I stop by Buck and Bass when I go to gun shows at the fairgrounds. That's the only time I get to that side of town.
I was in there last year and saw a S&W model 36 for about $200 too much. I asked the guy how he arrived at his price. He said "this one was made in the 50s."
I told him it wasn't, it wasn't a flat latch and was in a box commonly used in the 70s and 80s. He said "no this box was used in the 50s because the writing on the box said 1955".
Ha, that was the date of the copyright. I've got a model 17 that I bought new in 1975. Same box, same date.

Maybe they don't "look" for quantity buying at reduced costs, or maybe their order person is clueless and buying at msrp?
But don't they have a gunsmith there, around the backside of the store?

I don't think the gunsmith is there anymore, or so I've heard.

    I remember them well.
I remember when a box of 50 was 50 cents.
And not that long ago, a box of 500 was $7.99 at WalMart.

I stopped by buck and bass last weekend. Was looking at 1911's and prices. Well i asked if a specific model had a removable front sight as it looked like it was part of the slide. The counter said we could tell by removing the slide to see if it was screwed, or pinned in. I handed him back the pistol and he put it back in the glass case. I looked at him and asked if he would remove the slide so we could get an answer. He said no he would not do that cause he didnt want to mar up the finish. I was shocked that 1) he offered an solution to answer a question then refused, and 2) if he cant field strip a gun without marring the finnish, then why is he behind the gun counter. So I promptly left. This was the young guy that seems to always be there

Our Bass Pro Shop in Destin is just as bad on prices. Guns run about $100-$200 higher than anywhere else. Ammo prices are stupid. Must have something to do with the word ..Bass

That's one of the craziest things I've ever heard. A retailer having two of the exact same products priced differently based on their acquisition costs. Looks like someone slept through Econ 101. Something tells me he will be sitting on the more expensive box for a while! Someone needs to explain the concept of eating the loss to free up his capital to buy and move more product to him. Probably the same guy that tries to sell his car and thinks it's worth market value plus the cost of all the repairs he just had done to it.

That's good to know, was thinking of visiting BP next time I'm down there but that saves me a trip in. I wish we had something like a Cabela's, Academy, Dick's, etc... around here.

Yea BassPro is pretty spendy. I really like Academy. Wish there was one closer to me. They have a awesome ammo selection and most of their gun related stuff isn't too bad for a brick and mortar place.

Nothing screams "GET OUT OF HERE" like common used guns priced higher then other Shops abundant in stock NIB. I don't mind profit but refuse to be the victim of wallet rape.

Here in the P'cola area,I have found that the normal(non sale)prices of gun related items to be the cheapest at Academy. This is between --> Dick's,Gander Mt.,and Academy. During the heavily advertised sales I also find that Dick's and Gander both seem to "run out" of the advertised item rather quickly. (Hmmmmmm ????)

Places to ask questions --> 1. if you find that two of the "right" workers are there,Gander Mt. seems to be a place that you can ACTUALLY talk guns, ammo, and reloading with an associate. 2. Dick's has one guy that knows his shit. Wish he would teach the others. 3. Academy does not have a living, breathing soul that knows a effin' thing about anything gun, ammo,or scope related. They will get the day of the week wrong so .... DON'T ASK !! --- SAWMAN

In the spirit of this thread...
I stopped by Gander the other night to browse and waste time. Spoke with a guy behind the gun counter about the police trade in glocks they've had since opening ($550). According to him Gander bought these in a package deal for about $150-$200 a piece. They are well used and priced new. Just sayin

I hate shopping at ANY big box store no matter the product. Only go in to check out merchandise.

I've got a couple bass pro gift cards in my wallet but don't want spend them cuz at their prices I'm still getting taken.. Lol

I like academy for their prices... THATS IT

I visit gander occasionally cuz they have a big selection of most of the popular guns.

I don't even waste my time at Dicks

The best deals I've found here are from our local home based FFL dealers, like Nate little jack's and Deep South. I understand that big box stores have to make some money, but with tax increases, I'd rather teach the gov a lesson and hold onto my hard earned cash.
