I have a 1911 and want to put an extended safty on it. My question is will that affect the trigger job? Will it have to be fitted at all? Thanks in advance.

Dan I know you love Wilson Combat. I am suprised you didn't notice that mine had Wilson Combat sites on it. Those were the good ones when I bought mine years ago. My how things have changed over the years. Might be time to upgrade those to.

I thought they were Bomar, I know everyone started copying them after a while.

If you want the install done right, talk to 1911Junky, he might even have one in stock.

I fit a couple of safeties in the last few months including one in the Kimber I got from Dan. Two of them were Ed Brown ambi-safeties into Springfield Armory guns and the one in the Kimber is a Colt. All required fitting. I used a 6" double cut fine file and it took me about 45-60 minutes of slow going and constantly re-checking the fit so as to not take too much.
I disagree with Dan on Wilson safeties because I don't care for the wider profile they have vs. the Ed Brown. It's a difference in preference not quality; both are quality parts. That is my complaint with the Colt safety as well. It will be replaced by an Ed Brown eventually. I put the Colt in because I had it available in my box o' goodies and so I could get some holster and range time with it.

I was going to install a new one on my Colt but chickened out & brought it to the smith at Alabama Holster company in Daphne. He is supposed to be 1911 specialist. It should be finished this week. Cost was $60.

I will buy a cheap one to practice with one day but I did not want to waste $60 if I screwed it up.

That is really the way to go if you don't feel comfortable doing it and there isn't a thing wrong with not feeling comfortable doing it. I've seen a lot of what started as really nice guns messed up because someone thought owning a kitchen table and a dremel tool made them competent to smith their guns.

Ha ha everyone knows you need that swivel head vice with the suction cup sticker and a ball pean hammer too.
