I have been a member at Escambia Search and Rescue (ESAR) for almost 20 years now and know of no better group of people who have volunteered to serve our community in the worst of situations. I serve as Director and it is an honor to help our fellow man in need in our community. " There's nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer" as quoted by James Doolittle as he built his team for the famous Doolittle's Raid... I believe that to be 100% true and ESAR has always been an all volunteer 501c3 agency and never been a part of Escambia County government or business as many have thought over the years.

ESAR was chartered in 1961 although formed much earlier which makes us one of the oldest SAR teams in the country. We are honored to be celebrating our 60th Anniversary this upcoming Saturday on July 24 and want to invite you all to our Open House and Anniversary Celebration from 10:00 to 14:00. were going to have our high tech equipment on display, present a few outstanding members with recognition, stroll down memory lane with past members and provide an outstanding FREE pulled pork lunch..

I'll keep updating this post with photos from over the years and a few of the many amazing stories we have been a big part of over the past 60 years. In my service as an recovery diver and Dive Commander, I have had the duty to recover over 2 dozen drowning victims over my time. There are many members of our team that share similar dossiers and many have done even more. Come see us and hear our story.

Thanks for your time, and hope to see you there Saturday... Have a unique SAR skill and want to help? we always need more volunteers.....

As we’re one of the oldest volunteer SAR teams in the nation , we’ve been asked by the US Dep of State to share our method of success with 3 different international delegations. The one pictured is from Japan which suffered from inadequate urban SAR in the wake of the tsunami a few years ago. We’ve also hosted a Russian & UK delegations on urban volunteer SAR.

We have also sponsored a children’s life jacket program to help promote jacket awareness & use.

we have a outstanding drone program thanks to Impact 100 Pensacola
