The problem is not new but the preposed reduction method is! Idaho has used Depredation and Landowner Permission Hunts for years to cull larger elk populations that habitat can't support their numbers or damage crops. The farmers want the State to fix it but don't want hunters on their land. I say, tough shit farmers; that's the fix or suck up the losses. Normal hunting hours can also be of limited success due to the nature of the Whapiti and not seeing them in crop damaged areas. The Regulations can be adjusted for hunting hours after dark, bag limits and allowed equipment for those Hunts.
