    Then as boatbum1 noted. It does depend on what gen L frame you have. I dont recall Smith producing a 7" L frame. It also depends which gen L frame u have because frame materials. Scadnium Ss Carbon steel etc. A better descrip of your Smith or a pic would help everyone here to understand exactly what your end goal should be.

    i have changed out a few , have even been to S&W factory amor school , if the barrel is used you hope it has some extra metal to fit it to the frame, have the tools to do the forcings cone, set the gap, then hope the ejector works right ,and don't need adjusting. and you want know this until you get it off and try putting the barrel you want on. Now on the other side if is short or to long you get in to some metal work want get in to that. So I would listen to the advise about , best send it to S&W will be cheaper in the long run. Just my 5 cents jj
