I guess that a current career as a Nursery Consultant after being a Spec Op Warrior, would qualify as being as good once as you ever were...

I believe I can ,I think I can. but with experience my body tells me to let the young guy kick the door in He wants to do it. So yes I can do it. better, make better decisions
It is a lot quieter, far more tranquil, and much easier physically tip toeing thru the Tulips. But with every year that passes it becomes more apparent that making better choices is far healthier than attempting to run further, jump higher, or swim longer. Sunrise over looking a flower garden seems like a better choice than a dawn launch. Guess old age and gravity eventually temper the exuberance of youth? But it sure makes for a much different bucket list? YMMV. Not to mention that modern technology tends to antiquate many job tasks.

I could but the butchers bill on my body would cause severe problems sooner rather than later.
The split times are a hair longer than before and the groups are a bit larger than they were but still easily in the top 5 %.
The big issue is situational and positional awareness. I would bet my life on it but not want to be responsible for others unless absolutely necessary.

It's the responsibility for others that tends to cause the greatest pause. The time has passed that I would be of much use splashing into a sea state six in the Arctic or Antarctic to assist others, regardless of the conditions they where in. It's up to young to take over those types of responsibilities for others. The confidence in performance wains rapidly when it's more than just what happens to one self. YMMV.

The surest way to know someone ISN'T a Navy SEAL is when they mention they WERE a Navy SEAL within 5 mins of talking to them.
I wouldn't know, I never earned a 5326 NEC. Don't confuse SO's with UDT or AIRR. With the current culture it's easy to understand why folks outside the NSW Community are easily confused. Not every swimmer in years long past needed to be an SO. Things did change dramatically after 1983 though. YMMV.

I mean there are some who maybe legit, but most military people I've known took awhile to warm up to each other and say I did this or that. Of course there is an exception to every rule and some of the blabbermouths might actually be legit.

And I guess some people are defined buy a handful of years of their life decades ago.

The most entertaining things is to hear one of these people jabber on for 5 mins saying the did this or that, then having them realize that I see right through their fake story. The best was at the Museum of Science and Industry, some guy was saying he flew this and that, graduated from this institution... And my wife say "oh, my husband went there too"... seeing the blood drain out of his face was priceless. He scampered off with a quickness.

Three decades is a bit more than a handful of years to most. Most of the SAR missions, at least those that where successful, are well worth conversing about and I find them to be a source of pride during my obligated service and when volunteering after obligated service. But eventually Father Time takes his toll and passing a flight/swim/dive physical leaves you NPQ. YMMV. https://sofrep.com/news/the-rescue-...wimmers have very,SAR school, and SERE school.

I think if anyone was seriously athletic in their youth they are not up to those standards in their late 40’s and beyond. Not only does a decrease in max heart rate lower your potential, but being and staying in that kind of shape usually results in injuries and arthritis later in life that prevent training as hard as is necessary to maintain the fitness levels of youth.

It's funny, some people don't understand their 'tells' in their stories. Re-read them carefully and it's like your kid lying about getting an extra cookie out of the jar...

And the fact that some people PM each other, calling them out is extremely funny to me... Know that if you are sending those PMs, you have already lost the argument...
