Don't get to hunt much but got a invite a few weeks ago to go deer hunting near Opelika Al this past friday.
Thought it would be fun to take a deer with my old Trapdoor Springfield, so I took it to the range last weekend to zero it on with some 350 grain hollowpoints loaded to a safe velocity for a 50 yard max shot.
26 rounds later its pretty consistant in the black.
Shoulder was killing me after that episode, but felt confident I could make a good shot if a deer somehow wandered on close.
Temp was in the 20's.......no wind. Crows were calling in the distance and could hear a owl hoot once in a while. A squirrel barking nearby, but no sign of a deer.
Just enjoying being here on the woods looking and listening .
Admiring looking at the old gun.
Seemed strange not to hear any shots by now. Maybe the deer had been wiped put of this area?
Listening and watching hard now, I was suprised when a rifle shot rang out knowing it was Brandon that just shot.
Soon, he text me that he just killed a coyote that walked up on him.
When I saw it I thought maybe it was a wild dog, but Brandon said it was a black coyote and they were rare to see. He's owns a taxidermy business and I'll post the finished pose here when he's done.
No deer for us, but a fun days hunt for sure!
