Not really well versed in 45acp but I'm looking for best bang for the buck target rounds as well as a good quality self defense round once I sight in and get used to how it shoots. I've seen rounds from $.45 each up to above $2.00. Any good input on brands and comments good and bad? I'm shooting a springfield arms 1911 by the way. Thanks in advance

I like steel or aluminum for general target work. Federal Premium 230 hardball makes good groups, and Hornady Critical Defense 220gr +P is a good, hard hitting round.

Dante, for targets, I use a variety of 230 gr. FMJ ammo (Monarch Brass, Federal Premium, Blazer, Blazer Brass, and some Georgia Arms). For a defensive load, I use SPEER GoldDot 45 AUTO 230 gr. GDHP (hollow points) and Federal Premium 45 AUTO 230 gr. Hydra-Shok JHP.

For defensive social encounters I prefer Federal Premium LE Tactical HST 230's . For target I load 3.8grs Bullseye with 200gr lead SWC (H&G 68 ) . Unless you want jacketed in that case either 4.3grs VVN-310 , 4.6grs Bullseye or 4.8grs WST with either the Nosler or Zero 185 JHP .

I heard a radio ad this morning that Mike's has Federal Hydra Shocks for something like $25 for a box of 50. That's a good price.

Critical Duty in .45acp and 9mm perform superb on my firearms. tightest group of all SD rounds I have tried and passed FBI protocol with flying colors.
