obama shut down many useful things, and the general population will continue to suffer from the destruction he caused for a long time.

We dont even have paper charts, notice to mariners, light list, etc. Its all electronic now with a backup on a laptop. When i started, i would plot a course on a block chart and swing by a platform to make sure i was where i thought i was . Installed our new navigation computer last week. $7800

I never left sight of land so I never learned proper navigation! The only time I had to even read a compass was when I was going straight from the canal across Charlotte Harbor to Boca Grande Pass.

Another example is driving. When I was a kid, my friends and I couldn't wait to get our drivers licenses. A few of my friends with teenagers say that their kids aren't anxious to get there licenses because it's a "hassle" and their parents will drive them anywhere they want to go.

Ain't this the truth. My grandson is 18 and about to go to Clemson but does not have a Drivers License. Doesn't want one. Never had a gf that I know of so probably hasn't even felt a tit. WTH is wrong with these kids today? Is it due to the parents or technology?

Going to say it's got something to do with the economy and job market. Back in my day kids ran paper routes at 10 years old and had full time jobs while attending HS by 15. Once you where 16 it was common place to be out on your own paying rent, car insurance, health insurance, and working more than one job. Today's insurance rates, when coupled with the economy, make it almost impossible to survive on your own at 16, 18, and even difficult when first Graduating College. JMHO YMMV.
