Why use 6.8? 6.5 Grendel is more accurate and bullet weight can be the same as 6.8. Also full auto recoil makes accuracy more difficult as the bullet gets heavier.

But not making sense and poor decisions are part of the Army method and the Marines will like it.

Many of these decisions have more to do with who’s getting paid, ie, kickbacks etc! It’s just how they do stuff!

It’s documented that the Army chose to produce its own projectile, based on work done by engineers and shooters at the Army Marksmanship Unit.

Remember, The M1 Garand rifle was first built in both .30-caliber and .2760-caliber versions. Though the .276 performed better, large stocks of .30-caliber ammunition left over from World War I drove budget-conscious arms developers to choose the .30-caliber option.

I believe the Marines are still studying the situation.

Yep. It's some generals retirement program. Look for the company that hires a retired general to be a company VP.

Something about those that do not learn from history tent to repeat the same mistakes ?
Remember how the "new breed" of army couldn't handle everything about the 1911. A whole lot of whining and little cheese ? The end result was the 92A in 9 MM. Everything the "limp wrist" and "split tails" needed. marksmanship training wasn't front and center because then had 15 rounds to "spray and pray"
Now fast forward to today, and the "nanny state" where military age people were raised on "there are no winners or losers" and everybody gets a trophy , and if you took away their cell Ph's they couldn't function
All military recruitment is so far below the needs to fill the ranks that the military is cutting whole units.
6.8 OR ??? I doubt that no matter who gets kick backs , any changes will have to get the NATO country's approval , but with "we the tax payers" footing the bill for any and all changes they won't bitch to much.
With military age males from China and all the "sand box" country's
walking across the border and being flown in , I'm betting on an attack that will make 9/11 look like a lovers spat. Maybe , at least they will do something to the UN building and / or everything inside the "belt way".
ever hear the term "GAME OVER"

Purpose of the 6.8 is to replace both 556 and 762.
