i was intrigued when I saw the new mkIV but as with most new models, the price seemed high. i own and love my MkII and was thinking about selling/trading to convert to a MkIV but really, it is a pita to clean, i am a little torn whether or not to go this route...looking for opinions, reviews etc...

Learned a long time ago to not never take one of them "MARK, 1,2,3" apart, just wipe them down and pull a bore snake threw the barrel and your good to go :thumb:

I watched a youtube on them long ago, it did seem more than a little tricky if I recall

I've had a blue Mk IV Target model for a month or so. Great gun. There is talk of the trigger having a heavy pull but mine seems fine. I'll probably install one of those Tandemkross jobs anyway but box stock it's an awesome shooter. This is my first Ruger so I can't compare the 4 with previous versions.

Extremely easy to takedown and clean the Mk IV. Press the button on the back while tilting the front of the upper down to lift it off, take out the bolt and that's it.

Like the old saying, if not broke don't fix it, if it still shoots good, keep on shooting and run a bore snake threw the barrel

That's all I did with my MK I and MK III. Blow it out, flush it out with gun blast or similar, blow it out again, then hit it with spray rem oil.

I've never taken my Mark II's apart but I've heard that once you get the hang of it, it's not hard.
I would like to have somebody experienced as back-up before I attempt it.

The Mark series is why I tell folks to get a
High Standard (any series), a Browning Buckmark,
S&W Victory, or heck, even a Beretta Neos...

    Anything takes down easier.
Heck, my Calico M-110 is easier to clean!!!
    calico safe.jpg

Ruger patterned the Marks after the Japanese Nambu
of WW2. It simply has more parts than it should...
    most of which cause problems.
Ruger has NEVER won an Olympic event with a Mark series.
    Ain't likely to, either.

High Standard (of Connecticut) is the ONLY American MFR
to ever win Olympic Gold in .22 pistol.
    Nobody else even comes close.
    So they've got a bonus...

But for straight-out good feel on a new pistol,
kinda hard to beat the Browning Buckmarks.
    Very reliable, easy to maintain.

As always, your mileage may vary :D
What fits well in the hands of one,
doesn't neccessarily fit well in another.

I've had my stainless mkII apart to rinse out the 10oz of play sand(long story), watched a YouTube video, tore it down, rinsed out and oiled, got it back together. It wasnt a joyful experience but it's really not rocket science.
As far as accuracy, it's more accurate than I am, but I don't shoot it much anymore. It's boring putting 10 rounds in a half dollar at 15 yards as fast as you can, (mine even cycles shorts, which is cool but still boring) It really only comes out when there's some form of marsupial or reptile on the porch.

Funny you say how boring it is to shoot cause it kinda is....super accurate, super light trigger, super reliable...almost boring. almost! If the mkIV didn't have a similar trigger, then I would stay with my MkII. It is the lightest stock trigger I have ever experienced.
